Hard to believe it’s the middle of December and this year we are still finding scorpions in our homes. At Invader Pest Management, we have had numerous calls this week from our customers finding scorpions in their homes. I know that this year was particularly a heavy scorpion season in the Phoenix, Glendale and Scottsdale areas, and that most scorpions found this time of the year are left over from the summer and fall season. Of course when it started cooling down, the scorpions wanted the same thing we do – a nice warm place to hang their stocking for the winter, and they invite themselves into our homes, our storage, under cabinetry, in boxes, just about anywhere. When people start unpacking Christmas decorations from stored boxes, bringing in firewood for the fireplaces, etc… they are taking the chance of releasing any hidden scorpions from their winter harborages.

However in our case, the cat probably brought our newest guest in as a present for mommy – ha ha ha. Anyway, it was time to get one of our guys out to the house, Yep – we have to have our house treated by a professional too, Nope – we still pay – employees don’t work for free – darn it!

Call Invader Pest Management for all you Pest, Rodent, Pigeon and Weed problems. Call 623-435-0228 or schedule online at Invader.net.

Maybe even at your house…

In July of 2009 there was a report of scorpions on Southwest Airlines, even a report of a scorpion at a McDonalds in Chandler. We have even seen a new Anti-Venom reported on in May of 2009, and numerous stories about scorpions on every channel, in every newspaper, and even on the radio!

It’s in the news every other day, if it is not on one news channel it’s on another. Sensationalism of a common pest in Arizona. The Scorpions were here before we were and I’m sure they will be here long after we are gone. The fact is with some common sense, knowing what to look for, and being a little proactive with scorpion pest control, you can help reduce the chances of having a scorpion horror story like we have been seeing played out in our local news media.

Get To Know Scorpions

DID YOU KNOW THAT SCORPIONS ARE NOT INSECTS? …. Scorpions are annoying little pests. But… They are not insects. You may be saying to yourself right now, “What?” but no they are not insects. Scorpions are actually considered to be Arachnids. Arachnids are eight legged creatures like Spiders, Ticks and Scorpions.

I found this great story on the internet by Judy Hedding at About.com and I would be hard pressed to spell it out any better than she did.

…and not all scorpions are poisonous! Some Scorpions contain a lethal sting, most scorpians only have stings that are as potent as a honey bee sting. But stings can be deadly. If you happen to have an allergic reaction to a sting it can very well be fatal. Don’t be fooled by even the smallest Scorpion. And while not all are deadly, the Arizona Bark Scorpion is the most poisonous in the United States. And despite not running a high risk of death, the stripped bark scorpion sting is painful. So we still advise finding a scorpion control solution that is right for you. for more on this story

Invader Pest Management can do a “blacklight” inspection to determine if there is a scorpion infestation and propose to reduce or remove the harborage areas around your property where scorpions can live and enter into your home.

Call 623-435-0228 to schedule your inspection.
